Suburban Propane - Failure to return payment of unused fuel
Prior to April 2014 I carried for, about a year, a credit balance. In April I was charged a rental fee.
I asked to have the tank removed, as I had not used and had replaced the furnace. It was a full tank. The tank was removed and a couple of days after my call. Now suburban is claiming they have no record of taking the tank.
After four calls, each with a promise of a return call, I am no closer to my refund and am not receiving a return call. I have asked to speak with a manager and am told they are on the other line and will call back. They claim they have no record of my tank being taken. Although a rep from their office had originally told me I called on April 25 and then they received a call to cancel on April 29, which was probably when the tank was removed.
Now they claim they have no record of my call.
I want the courtesy of a return call as well as my refund!!! I have never had satisfactory service from this company.

Here are a couple of options you as a NJ suburban customer can do to protect yourself from being swindled by these vultures.
1. Record all conversations you have, let them know you are recording the conversation.
2.
Research switching over to natural gas by calling all gas companies in your area, its not that difficult and most gas companies will run the gas lines and meter for free as long as you use them for your service.
3. If you do have an underground tank ask suburban to send you copies of the ownership paperwork. Also, put a padlock on the dome cover so they don't make any surprise deliveries without your authorization. Remember, its their product but YOUR property.
4.
Install a security camera facing the tank(s). Always try to have someone there when a delivery is made to watch them. Always check your gauge before they deliver propane.
Bottom line, you have options.
It sucks to deal with suburban but with a little time and effort you can make a difference.
Best of luck!
